QUALITY MAINSTREAMING ACROSS UNION MEMBERS
The union is managed by an experienced management team qualified in Cooperative Business Management. The team ensures quality control practices and enforcement at union and cooperative member levels.
Our union has a well-oiled system for managing the quality aspect of the product from farm gate to export.
We provide trainings and support on:
- Quality at washing, pulping, handling, storage and sampling levels.

- Agronomy for best practices in the farm
QUALITY CHECKS FROM SEED TO CUP
We want to make sure that we provide the highest quality products, and that no quality is lost through transport and shipping. To achieve this, quality control is done at every level of the value chain including harvesting, processing and shipping.
Prior to shipment we ensure that our products meet our rigorous internal quality standard and international industry certification guidelines with 100% satisfaction.
For coffee, quality is controlled from the cherry stage. Once the harvested cherries have been checked, sorted, washed and dried, quality checks are applied to the processing stage:
Once are green beans reach our headquarters in Addis, we put them through a rigorous 6-step sorting and preparation process with state-of-the-art machinery and trained sorters:
- Precleaning
- Destoning & Magnetic separation
- Sorting & Grading (screen size)
- Gravity Separation
- Color sorting
- A final round of handpicked sorting with human eye.
Only the finest quality beans make the cut.
Finally, a quality certifying certificate is issued and attached on the export documentation for release.
